Discover Pho 90 Degree - Milpitas

Walking into Pho 90 Degree - Milpitas feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where comfort food actually delivers on comfort. Located at 222 Great Mall Dr, Milpitas, CA 95035, United States, this diner-style Vietnamese restaurant has become a regular stop for locals who want a warm bowl of pho without pretense or unnecessary frills. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday, and the consistency is what keeps pulling me back.

The menu is straightforward but thoughtfully put together. You’ll find the classics done right: beef pho with rare steak, brisket, tendon, and meatballs, along with chicken pho for those who prefer a lighter broth. On one visit, I watched a first-time customer ask the staff for guidance, and they patiently explained the differences between cuts of beef and how long each one takes to cook in the broth. That kind of interaction says a lot about how the place operates day to day. The broth itself is the star, simmered for hours using beef bones, spices like star anise and cinnamon, and careful temperature control. According to culinary guidelines shared by Vietnamese cooking experts and organizations such as the James Beard Foundation, slow simmering at a steady heat is essential for clarity and depth of flavor, and it shows here.

Beyond pho, the menu branches out into vermicelli bowls, rice plates, and appetizers like crispy egg rolls and fresh spring rolls. I often order a vermicelli bowl when I want something less soupy, topped with grilled pork that’s slightly smoky and not overly sweet. Portion sizes are generous, which lines up with many customer reviews noting good value for money, especially considering the location near the Great Mall. In Milpitas, where dining options range from quick bites to higher-end spots, this restaurant comfortably sits in that sweet middle ground.

From a nutrition standpoint, pho is often misunderstood. Research published by Harvard School of Public Health points out that bone-based broths can provide minerals and hydration, especially when balanced with lean protein and herbs. While no one should claim pho is a miracle food, it’s fair to say it’s a more balanced option compared to many fast-casual meals, particularly when you go easy on added sauces. That balance is one reason I’ve recommended this place to coworkers looking for a satisfying but not overly heavy lunch.

The dining area is casual, clean, and designed for turnover without feeling rushed. Tables are simple, service is efficient, and food arrives quickly even during peak hours. I’ve noticed that during busy weekends, staff members coordinate closely, calling out orders and double-checking bowls before they go out. That process reduces mistakes, something frequent diners appreciate. Reviews across popular food platforms often mention accuracy and speed, which matches my experience.

One limitation worth noting is that parking around the Great Mall area can get crowded, especially in the evenings. Also, while the menu covers a solid range of Vietnamese staples, it doesn’t venture much into regional or experimental dishes. For most people, that’s not a drawback, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re searching for something unusual.

Overall, this restaurant has earned its reputation through steady quality, approachable flavors, and a clear focus on doing a few things very well. It’s the kind of place you bring friends who are new to Vietnamese food, confident they’ll leave full and satisfied, and probably planning their next visit.

  • Decent spot for Viet food in a mall. The bánh phở (rice noodles) were fresh and surprisingly in the Northern/traditional style, which was great. Overall, the pho was still in the Southern style though, with bean sprouts and herbs. They also had chả cá Lã Vọng which was hard to find in the states.

  • Had a great time here with my husband. He ordered the #62 and I ordered the #65. Although the salmon was a bit bland, it was still cooked and prepared really well! Will definitely come to eat here again.

  • I've gone to this location once, and the interior was very nice. I wasn't expecting it to be so big!! I ordered the vegetarian pho, it came with lots of noodles and vegetables. The broth had good flavor, it tasted good with the 2 sauces at the table. I am not a pho fan, but was surprised because this was past my expectations. Price was decent, it was $18. I believe the portions could be for 2 people because there was a lot but it depends how hungry you are.
